We’re here to find out what happened on the shores of Lake Ladoga, some five years ago. Last night Gutka gave us a small ragged tour-book to help us find her sire, the Nosferatu Baba Yaga. She (or it) was there five years ago and, hopefully, will be able to tell us more about what happened. Both the Hermitage and the Mikhailovski Castle are marked in Gutka´s book.
First we go to the Mikhailovski Castle, which turns out to be a museum. We break in and find out that there is an exihibition about Baba Yaga, which has already been postponed several times. Hmm, interesting... During the break in, our newest member of the group insults me several times and we almost get into a fight. Thanks to my self-control nothing happens (if I am to purchase any forrests here it’s probably a good idea to keep a low profile, despite all those over-civilized morons that surround me here). In the basement we find a sculpture and a scroll. Yawn! Bored now, so I go upstairs to look at the building once more. When I look out of the window, I see a car and three persons that are coming straight at us. I go get the others and we leave the museum as fast as possible.
Back in town Val gets a mysterious phonecall from the individuals we saw. A woman’s voice says: You beat us to it. Open the scroll carefully, look at it, the first line says: “Harken these words, oh children of Absimiliard. If you want to find out more, follow the raven.” Just as she hangs up, we look out the window and see a raven, which, of course, we then follow. At a railwaystation close by, the raven perches on a map and starts picking on the city of Kirov.
Since this is our only lead, we decide to take a flight to Kirov. First we do a little research and find out that there’s no connection between Baba Yaga and Kirov. Other than that we don´t find out much at all about Baba Yaga. Kirov doesn’t turn out to be a very interesting place (very few trees here) for us. So the next night we wait for the train from St. Petersburg to arrive. After three (boring) hours of waiting, the train comes at last. We see the three individuals we saw at the museum a few nights ago accompanied by some twenty gypsies, leaving the train. One of the three individuals, an old woman, is recognised by Jack and John. She’s a very old Ravnos by the name of Durga Syn. She invites us to come with her to the town of Verescagino. For some reason the others seem to trust her.
