‘Today we met in a pub, another one, of course. After some stupid time-consuming niceties, how we where going to miss that bad-blooded Giovanni, it was investigation time. Because those Assemites are, damn kiriman, still after us! Although..
Newspapers said: ‘ Five people dead in Maiden Arms Blaze’. Which is strange. When we managed to get out of the pub everybody else already left, I saw no casualties. And nobody saw the Fitz’ fireworks, of course. Could it be possible that the primogen of York has used their power in an attempt to mislead the Assemites? Or could our fortune be such that the Kiriman themselves where caught up in the fire? Hmm, well there is only a ‘Mary Johnson’ in the death announcements that could possibly be one of those five. Have to look her up…. Apart from this information we found nothing else; the police are investigating. Tomorrow we will hunt for more facts, srefsrefi.’

‘We survived another day, no signs of kiriman. Let’s pray they really are dead. In the meanwhile we try to stay save and alive. Today we all slept here in old Schumann’s Saint Aldwins. The guys got a bit queasy of course *snigger*. They all have that when they walk into the old city, but hey.. who is going to search for us here. Of course, it is also good to be in an advantaged position compared to the rest. Muscles, being loony or having money won’t save you here. Brains do!
Talking about money, I know someone who is seriously without it at the moment. We met with masra Hargrove, the owner of ‘Maiden Arms.’ He had a couple of pubs but when his illegal gambling club in the Maiden burned down with it he went broke immediately. Still I guess police investigating may have something to do with it as well. Strange thing is: he could not place the five death people either. They where not in this illegal club. Have to think about this, long and in quiet. Which is not possible now!! Not with bobo around. Damn, you know what the white-jacked fool did today? He tried to drink from broken bottles when we where investigating ‘Maiden Arms’. I’m glad I concentrated on taking some of Fitz’s ashes before I got myself involved in stopping Jack. First things first. He’s almost as crazy as the York policemen. We saw a couple of them acting strange and asked for information. Their answer: ‘sshh, we’re on a secret mission.’ Can you believe that?’

(heavy breathing) I’m okay. Mi Gado. Yes, I think we’re all right. Wait…where is John? He just helped us out of that burning hell. (….) Ah, Gatske claims he went after the bastards who just did this to us. He chasing them, hope he’ll get them.
(sigh...) A fortune of books: gone. They are dust, again, like we’ll all be in the end. And again there was fire: it seems we are hunted by it. Moro nanga moro faya. Well, let’s see. Those guys must have had a big weapon. The first thing I saw minutes ago when I woke up was the enormous hole it had shot into the wall of the bookstore. Furthermore they drove an army jeep. Connections with the army? Who are those guys? Rationally: the Assamites, trying to serve out the contract and thus unaffected by the fire in Maiden Arms. Or do we have another problem at our hands? Anyway, we have to get out of here, before officials arrive. Furthermore we have to get dressed because we are expected at the National Railway Museum tonight. Jack just got a phone call of Elizabeth: the new prince of York will be enthroned tonight. Wait.
John came back with part of the data on the license plate of the jeep he chased: GK-124. I phoned Elizabeth with this information so she could track it down. Who knows, we may be able to get those saka sakas.

With an Assemite-contract on our heads which nobody seems to be able to undo, we are now sent to St. Petersburg. Wait, let me tell the tori. We arrived at the Railway Museum in the big hall. The whole kindred society of York was present. I saw Matthew McCrae, Thorolf (who seems to get along fine with Gatske, I must remember that) and Mc Donaldsen. The new prince of York, Marquise Marie d'Anseny, ordered all of us to join her one by one in a some sort of ritual. When I had to lay my hands in the hands of the delicate blond Marquise, it felt like a scene out of the tales of King Arthur. I felt almost religious when I said the pledge of honor while I looking into those huge violet eyes. I’m still wondering if it was merely a ceremony or something else completely. Let’s hope it wasn’t the latter. I should look into this sort of English rites one time. Anyway…St. Petersburg. After our statement towards Marie she told us it had proven to be impossible to lift the contract against us which the old primogen of York had signed with the Assemites. In a reaction to this failure madam Malroy later made us a proposal (well, it sounded more like a demand than a proposal but anyway). The new primogen of York had thought it wise to send us to St. Petersburg, since we have a reputation for doing research and as a way to escape Assemite claws. She told us some funny things have happened there, something to do with an event in India that has had an effect on all Ravnos. Yes.. her information was vague, to say the least. The only thing that she was sure about was the killing of about 20 kindred. A Polish guest also present at the party, Josef Ptazinski, gave us a bit more information but not that much more then John could sum up. He has been there and knows the prince: Nicolai, a ventrue. So, now we’re sent off to Russia. On the run for kiriman and maybe in search of even more troubles. Man!’
